Drommedaris has over the years developed a performance that is as much about rhythm, energy and visual entertainment as it is about sound.

The father-and-daughter duo of Hans Drommedaris and Alika du Plessis has been creating music together for years, developing a performance that is as much about rhythm, energy and visual entertainment as it is about sound.
Drommedaris will bring that unique live experience to the OppiDam Musiekfees at Vygeboom Dam on October 2 and 3 at 21:30 and 16:00 respectively. The duo does not operate like a conventional band. Drums, percussion, rhythm and timing form the foundation, while Alika's distinctive voice adds another dimension to the performance.
More recently, the act has expanded. Since 2025, Alika's partner, Dewan Venables, known as Draadkas, has also become part of Drommedaris, contributing djembe, vocals and sound to the performance. The result is an unusual combination of musicianship, rhythm and live performance that is difficult to pigeonhole.
There is plenty of experience behind it. Hans has been involved in the music industry since childhood and has spent years developing his skills through training and live performances. That experience is evident in the way the Drommedaris show is constructed and delivered.
Alika began playing music from a young age and has developed her own style over the years, not only behind the drums but also as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. The combination of Hans's experience and Alika's youthful energy creates a natural musical connection that is difficult to fake. That connection is at the heart of Drommedaris.
Their instruments and equipment have also evolved. What began with relatively simple improvised drums has grown into a sophisticated and mobile setup that allows the act to take its distinctive show to different venues and stages. Some of the sounds they produce do not immediately appear to belong in a conventional musical performance, but that is precisely part of the appeal.
Drommedaris began attracting wider attention during the lockdown period when their first videos started gaining traction online. The momentum continued, and in 2023 they won Best Live Duo at the Afri-Indie Awards. In 2025, they added another accolade, winning Best EDM English for Focus on Me Baby. Their appearance at OppiDam therefore offers the opportunity to experience an act that has carved out a sound and performance style of its own.
Accommodation at OppiDam is limited, and bookings are already open. Those planning to attend are encouraged to book early rather than risk missing out.
