'Big Bounce Day' brings joy and laughter to Laerskool Barberton Primary

The sports grounds at Bouwer Park were buzzing with excitement last Friday as Laerskool Barberton Primary hosted their much-anticipated Big Bounce Day. From the tiniest Grade RR learners to the confident Grade 7s, everyone swapped classrooms for sunshine, colour, and plenty of fun.

The entire school was divided into five vibrant groups: Lions, Leopards, Buffalos, Rhinos, and Elephants, each proudly showing off their team colours that tied in with the spirit of the African Big 5.

A line-up of activities awaited them!

The Big Bounce castle was a clear favourite, with cheers and laughter echoing across the field as learners tumbled, bounced, and raced each other. Traditional β€œboeresport” T-games added a nostalgic twist with sack races, bucket-filling with leaky containers, and a spirited tug-of-war reminded everyone that simple games can create the loudest laughs.

The obstacle course kept energy levels high as children leapt over hurdles, wriggled through hoops, landed on the high jump mat, and tested their aim with beanbags. Over at the go-cart track, squeals of laughter could be heard as teams cheered each other on in fast and furious laps.

Adding to the carnival atmosphere, learners could have their faces painted, cool down by catching a Coke, or treat themselves to delicious eats at the tuck shop. Parents and teachers were thrilled to see the joy on every child’s face and even more delighted that the day helped raise much-needed funds for the school.

By the end of the day, pupils and teachers alike were sun-kissed, tired, and grinning from ear to ear. Big Bounce Day was more than just a break from the classroom, it was a day of teamwork, laughter, and memories that will stay with the children for years to come.
