The Grade 7 learners of Laerskool Barberton Primary recently swapped their schoolbooks for business plans when they hosted their annual Entrepreneurs Day.

As part of the Economic and Management Sciences curriculum, each learner was tasked with creating and running a 'mini business' for a day, complete with advertising posters, decorated stalls, and detailed business plans.

Under the guidance of their teachers, Mr. Sizwe Twala and Ms. Sheryldene Höll, the project is not only a highlight on the school calendar but also a valuable hands-on lesson in what it really takes to run a business.

From calculating expenses and planning purchases, to working out profits (or losses), the learners got a taste of real-world economics in action.

The rest of the school eagerly supported their budding entrepreneurs, flocking to the stalls to buy a wide range of treats. From the ever-popular chips, cooldrinks, and sweets, to homemade favourites like hot dogs, samoosas, and cupcakes, there was something for everyone. The Grade 7s even went the extra mile for their teachers by offering pre-ordered lunch packs, a thoughtful touch that made the day even more special.

Entrepreneurs Day once again proved to be a vibrant, exciting event, giving learners the chance to show their creativity, teamwork, and business savvy and perhaps inspiring the future business leaders of Barberton.

Each pupil was assessed on the business plan handed in which will be added to the marks for the subject at the end of the third term.
