A heartwarming gathering recently took place at Mount Horeb Care Centre in Barberton, where representatives from three child-care and community support organisations came together to strengthen relationships, share fellowship, and support the needs of vulnerable children.

According to Mount Horeb Care Centre manager Aubie Deetlefs, the occasion once again demonstrated how God continues to provide for the centre and the children in its care through the generosity of caring individuals and businesses.

Among the highlights of the visit was the donation of a beautiful wooden sleeper couch by Thea Mitchell of the Tinyoni Sewing/Yami Community Projects. The sleeper couch will not only serve as a practical addition to the facility but also provide comfort and convenience for both children and visitors.

Another generous contribution came from Jacomëy Preddy, owner of Bedmat, a bedding and mattress manufacturing company based in Rocky's Drift. Jacomëy specially designed and donated a custom-made waterproof mattress, complete with pillows, for use at the care centre. It fits beautifully onto the sleeper couch.

Aubie explained that the mattress will be particularly useful when a child is feeling unwell and needs a comfortable place to rest during the day. When not in use for this purpose, it can also serve as comfortable seating for guests visiting the centre.

"I never knew that Bedmat had such a caring heart for needy children in children's homes," said Aubie.

She explained that Bedmat works alongside churches and community organisations that provide financial support for charitable projects. Through these partnerships, the company manufactures beds, waterproof mattresses, bedding, and linen for children's homes and other facilities caring for vulnerable children.

The company's vision is inspired by Psalm 68:5, which describes God as a father to the fatherless.

The company realised that many children in communities and care facilities lack the basic comfort of a proper bed, which can affect not only their physical health but also their emotional well-being and sense of self-worth. By providing essential sleeping equipment, the initiative aims to improve sleep quality, promote better health, enhance emotional security, and reinforce community values centred on compassion and care.

The gathering at Mount Horeb was about more than donations. It was also an opportunity for like-minded organisations to connect, encourage one another, and discuss ways of supporting each other's projects in the future.

"We had a wonderful meeting together," said Aubie. "We spent time visiting, praying, sharing snacks, and committed ourselves to supporting one another's projects."

She added that the gathering reflected a shared desire to honour God by demonstrating His love in a world that often faces many challenges.

The donations will undoubtedly make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of the children at Mount Horeb Care Centre, while also serving as a reminder that community partnerships and acts of kindness continue to bring hope where it is needed most.
